While you are attending the conference sessions, your accompanying guests will have the opportunity to discover Luleå – a vibrant coastal city where nature, culture, and innovation meet. From exploring the charming city centre with its boutiques and cafés to hiking the hills overlooking the city, there’s something for everyone. Guests can visit Gammelstad Church Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, experience unspoiled nature, stroll along the scenic waterfront, or enjoy local cuisine featuring Arctic flavours. Whether they prefer a relaxing day of sightseeing or outdoor adventures, Luleå offers plenty of memorable experiences to enjoy.

For each day of the conference, we have arranged an activity for your accompanying guests.

*Please note that the organised activities are all based on a minimum number of participants and if we do not reach that number, the activity may be cancelled and a refund applied.

Visit Cape Wild 

A unique nordic wildlife experience in Luleå

Welcome to Cape Wild – a wildlife park just outside Luleå where you’ll meet moose, reindeer, and other Nordic animals in a close and personal way. This is an authentic taste of the North, blending nature, culture, and local food.

The visit includes:

  • Meeting tame moose and reindeer

  • Traditional souvas lunch – smoked reindeer meat served with bread, cooked over open fire. A vegetarian option is available.

  • Coffee

  • Round-trip bus transfer from Kulturens hus

The bus departs from Kulturens hus and takes about 30 minutes one way. The tour starts at 11 AM and ends with a traditional souvas lunch.

Total visit time: 3-4 hours including lunch and bus round trip

Experience Storforsen

One of Europe's most powerful rapids

Join us for a guided excursion to Storforsen, a breathtaking natural wonder located in the heart of Swedish Lapland. Approximately 100km from Luleå, is one of Europe’s largest free-flowing rapids – one of Norrbotten’s most popular nature experiences.

The bus departs from Kulturens hus at 10:15 AM and the journey takes about 1.5 hours. You will arrive at Storforsen just in time for lunch, followed by a guided tour along the rapids.

The visit includes:

  • Lunch

  • Guided walk along the rapids

  • Round-trip bus transfer from Kulturens hus

Total visit time: Approx. 6 hours

Explore Gammelstad Church Town

A UNESCO world heritage site

Come along on a cultural journey to Gammelstad Church Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the outskirts of Luleå. With over 400 red cottages clustered around a medieval stone church, this unique place tells the story of life, faith, and tradition in northern Sweden.

We meet at Kulturens hus in central Luleå and travel together by local bus (bus no. 9) directly to Gammelstad. The bus has several departures per hour and takes approximately 30 minutes one way. The guided tour starts at the Visitor Center and lasts around 60 minutes. The tour concludes at Café Fägnan, where we enjoy a lunch together in a cozy, traditional setting.

The visit includes:

  • Guided tour of Gammelstad Church Town at 10:30

  • Including lunch, coffee and tea at Café Fägnan at 11:30

Total visit time: Approx. 3 hours including bus trip

Price per person: 500 including VAT

*The bus ticket is not included. We will ride the public transit bus. Tickets need to be purchased by each person on the bus or prior to departure. A one-way ticket is 33kr for adults.

A historic mall in the heart of Luleå

Luleå’s first mall, called Shopping, was unique when it was built in the mid-1950s, it was the world’s first indoor shopping center. Today, it remains a vibrant meeting place with a wide range of stores, especially focused on fashion and footwear, but you’ll also find shops offering books, fabrics, and home decor. You can also take a break and enjoy a nice lunch or coffee at one of the mall’s restaurants or cafés. A visit to Shopping combines history, retail, and dining in central Luleå.

Go to Gültzaudden

Relax by the water in the central Luleå

Gültzaudden is a popular park right by the water, just a short walk from central Luleå. Here, you can relax on large grassy lawns, stroll along the waterfront promenade, or take a swim at the small city beach. The area also offers beautiful views of Luleå’s archipelago and is perfect for a picnic or a quiet moment in the sun. Gültzaudden is an ideal spot for both relaxation and activity – right in the city, yet close to nature.
